1. When thinking of the word "homemade" the first thing that comes to mind is my momma's good cooked homemade food. I would choose her food over any restaurants any day. Just because I know how hard she worked to cook it and just what she had to put in it to make it the best. This could also go for just about anything. When I was younger my grandma used to make us clothes, because that's how they did it when she was growing up, and I cherished the garmets she made me much more than any of my other store bought clothing. Anything homemade is just so much better! Homemade items could be taken less serioulsy than store bought things just because people might think they are made cheaper or they're not made "well" enough for them. Like when you get the "high maintenance" people that only wear and want the best. Aslo, you don't have to attend a huge university just to learn. Many people that work out in the fields, say farmers or oil drivers, have to educate themselves. I know from experience that hardly any of them went to school and are still doing just fine for themselves. It doesn't always take a higher education to get you places. It definitely helps, though.
2. Malcolm X achieved all of his knowledge while in prison. Now that's a pretty huge thing! Aslo, because he did this he became a widely known public speaker and human rights activist. All he knew, was from his time in prison. His works compare to Bell Hooks quote by both speaking in terms of education and treating it with the intensity it needs to be treated with. It differs by Malcolm actually experiencing it.
3. If I were locked in a prison cell I would go on to pursue the Bible. It is such an amazing book, in my opinion. After my release I would be so enriched in the pages and stories of the "Good Book" that I would go out and express my feelings toward it and teach what I have learned. Although, from being in prison and then going out and teaching the work of the "Good Book" I would probably get criticized a lot. This would not affect me. I would need to understand speach, which comes with literacy of english. By being able to use the right words and the right speach I would have a better effect on my audience.
i like you post honestly. but you didn't incorporate many examples from the readings into your text. and about the getting criticized part, you are definitely right because i have had that happen to me before. but like you said, you won't let it get to you, which is great.
ReplyDeleteYour statement was fair ok. I agree with the part about not being well enough for a person. Maybe "homemade" is more of something special to them, like your grandmother's homecooking. Its hard work that one put into something.
ReplyDeleteYou have a really good outlook on these topics. I enjoy your opinions and I agree with you on your ideas of "homemade".
