Discussion Prompt #4 "Claiming an Education"

1. I believe this passage applies to not only women, but also men because women do have an extremely stubbern effect on the male species. Men are always forced to "tag along" or get forced into doing something or going somewhere with their family or lady friends. I know from personal experience that my daddy literally hates to attend family gatherings, but he does anyway because my mom makes him. He does it out of respect for her, and my sister and I. Although, in my opinion, he shouldn't be forced to go if he doesn't want to. There's no reason for him to be there if he's going to be unhappy the whole time. This also applies to the "low class" people or those who have traditionally been underrepresented in the university by others thinking they are highly or worthy enough to be treated by what they consider "normal." People get judged by their looks, race, beliefs, religion, and class. Everyone is different and unique in their own way. You should be who YOU want to be, not who others want you to be. Following your own path will lead you to the most amazing, beautiful places in life.

2. In the classroom, the teacher is there to teach and the student there to learn. Simple as that. With your education, you don't have a choice but to go to high school. College is different. You have a choice to further your education or to just go with the flow and do your own thing. In my opinion, college is the better choice. In college, you will have the privilege to meet some of the most inteligent professors in the state. The smart thing to do would be to "pay attention" and really learn from them to better yourself.

  1. I like the way you connected the question to everyday life, but I think men are usually the force holders. Men do not usually want women to have the same or a better education than they do, unless its like their kids. I think we should all take advantage of our opportunities no matter if we are man or women, black, white, latino , or something in between. Like you said we are all different but we all have obstacles too. It is up to us whether we face those obstacles head on, or let them take control of our lives.

  2. You did a really great job at having the two question work with each other. I do agree that the whole who tell who what to do goes for both men and women. But most of the time men are the ones to tell the women what to do and sometimes they don't want women to be better than them. With college your compeltely right that its our choice in the mornings to go to class or not. So its all up to us with that.

  3. You are completely right about both of your answers. And applying it to personal matters gets our attention.

  4. Really good job on describing the men. I agree with your total post. This definately is for men and women. I like what you said about people being judged by their social status, race, gender, or even religion.

  5. I really liked the way you pushed self independence in your first response. I believe that you should not change who you are because of other people. Embrace who you are and love yourself. I agree with your out look on responsibilities of college compared to high school. College is optional whether or not you go is totally up to you.
